Quilting Services & Rates

Rates: I charge .025 cents per square inch for all designs. That’s it - no additional charges for thread, bobbins, needles, etc.

Example: A quilt top that is 50 inches x 65 inches (throw size). 50 × 65 = 3,250 (square inches) x .025 = $81.25

Minimum Charge: My minimum quilting charge is $45.00

Longarm Quilting

There is no additional thread or bobbin cost for my quilting service.

I use a variety of threads including Glide, Perfect Quilting Thread by OESD, and Aurifil.

I attempt to match or blend thread color with the lighter or dominant areas of your quilt. This is all personal preference and why I like to work with my clients to achieve their goal.

Thread

I use and stock my favorite Quilters Dream batting in the 80/20 cotton/poly blend. I will order other fiber varieties of Quilters Dream batting like wool, bamboo, etc.

I can also order other company varieties if preferred, or you can provide your own high quality batting.

Batting is a seperate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price for quilting. Batting price depends upon the type of batting you prefer.

Batting

Your backing fabric must be at least 4” larger than your quilt top around all four sides. For example if your quilt top is 50” x 65”, your backing fabric must be 58” x 73”.

At this time I do not carry backing fabric, however, I can work with you to purchase backing fabric if necessary. Client will be responsible for the fabric expense and any piecing that needs to be done.

If I need to piece the backing fabric the additonal charges are as follows:

  • Cotton fabric: $10 per seam ($15 if 90” or longer)

  • Minky/Fireside/Cuddle: $15 per seam ($20 if 90” or longer)

As a reminder, its always best to have horizontal seams across the back of the quilt to ensure the best outcome of the stiched design. If that is not possible due to whatever circumstances, I can definately work with it. If at all possible horizontal is best.

Backing

Rates:

I provide several levels of binding services. All rates are calculated by the linear inch of the quilt perimeter.

Example: A quilt top that is 50 inches × 65 inches. Perimeter is calculated by adding all four sides: 50+50+65+65=230 linear inches.

Option 1 - Client provids binding, I sew to quilt front

I attach client-provided binding to the front of the quilt. This is a good option for those who like to sew bindings down by hand. This service is .15 cents per linear inch.

Option 2 - Client provids binding, I sew to quilt front & back

I attach client-provided binding to the front and back of the quilt. This service is .25 cents per linear inch.

Option 3 - Client provides fabric, I make binding and attach to front

Client provides enough fabric for me to cut 2.25” strips of fabric to make binding, then I attach it to the front of the quilt. This is a great option for those who prefer to hand sew the binding on themselves. This service is .25 cents per linear inch.

Option 4 - Client provides fabric, I make binding and machine finish

Client provides enough fabric for me to cut 2.25” strips of fabric to make binding, I machine sew to back and front of the quilt. This service is .27 cents per linear inch.

Option 5 - Client provides fabric, I make binding and hand finish

Client provides enough fabric for me to cut 2.25” strips of fabric to make binding, I machine sew to front and hand sew to the back of the quilt. This service is .30 cents per linear inch.

Taxes

Being a resident of Illinois, we do not charge tax on quilting services.

Other items that may require Illinois tax are things like batting and thread which I already have covered in the cost.

Other Costs

Shipping your quilt top to me, I live in Illinois and would be happy to receive your quilt top and backing by mail. I recommend sending your materials enclosed in a bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then place in a hard-sided cardboard box (like USPS flat-rate priority shipping box). Be sure that the box is securely taped and clearly labeled.

Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in a plastic bag to protect it, and in a hard sided box to protect it. Most often I use USPS Priority mail or similar method which has a tracking number. I will communicate the tracking numer to you once the quilt has been shipped to you.

I would suggest keeping the plastic bag to re-use when sending another quilt to me.

**Please be aware that I cannot be responsible for lost packages. I’ll do everything I can to help ensure this does not happen, however, when it’s out of my hands I cannot be held responsible.

Shipping

After the work is complete, I will invoice you which will include payment methods.

On-line customers, I appreciate timely payments as that enables me to mail your project(s) back to you right away.

Local customers, I do accept cash, personal check, or card payments through the invoiced link.
